Sagunto Roman Theatre

The Roman Theatre of Sagunto, built in the 1st century AD during the reign of Emperor Augustus, sits on a hillside terrace below Sagunto Castle in Spain's Valencia province. The semicircular theatre seats approximately 8,000 spectators and was declared Spain's first National Monument in 1896. A controversial 1994 restoration modernized the structure, covering original stones with specialized limestone. The theatre remains an active cultural venue hosting performances and is open to the public with free admission.
