Wichqana

Wichqana is an Early Horizon ceremonial center in the Ayacucho Valley, Peru, active from approximately 1200-800 BC during the Kishka Pata period. Located on a western slope of Uma Urqu north of Ayacucho, the site features U-shaped architecture built of alternating sized stones, similar to the coastal center at Cerro Sechin. The ceremonial complex displays Chavinoid features, indicating that the Wichqana people participated in the broader Chavin cultural sphere that extended from Cajamarca to Ayacucho during this period. It represents important evidence of highland ceremonial traditions in pre-Columbian Peru.
