Tarawasi

Tarawasi (Tarahuasi) is an Inca ceremonial center built during the reign of Pachacutec, located in the Limatambo region approximately 75 km from Cusco, Peru. The site also functioned as a tambo, providing rest for travelers and Chasqui messengers. Its architecture features walls of perfectly carved octagonal stones assembled without mortar, and a notable polygonal retaining wall with 28 human-sized niches. An important Usnu altar atop the complex connected to the ceque system -- a sacred network of lines radiating from the Coricancha Temple in Cusco linking the empire's major religious centers.
