Naupa Iglesia (Choquequilla)

Naupa Iglesia (also called Choquequilla, meaning "golden moon") is an Inca huaca shrine built within a cave near Pachar in Peru's Sacred Valley. The cave features flat stone surfaces forming an inverted "V" roof, with carved window niches on one wall and a false door niche on the opposite wall, none leading anywhere -- speculated to symbolize a portal to another realm in Inca cosmology. A carved boulder displays chakana (Inca cross) motifs representing the three realms of existence. The site's original name suggests astronomical significance, possibly linked to lunar observations.
