Pumawasi, Anta

Pumawasi is a large pre-Columbian rock art cave in the Chinchaypujio District of Cusco, measuring 22 m deep, 30 m wide, and 19 m high. Five panels of red-toned paintings on the left wall include a 57 cm serpent with dotted body, human figures wearing tunics and carrying darts with spear-throwers, and geometric motifs dating to the Late Intermediate Period (c. 1000-1400 AD). Killke-style ceramics and human bone remains indicate use as both a burial ground and ceremonial site.
