Sóndor

Sondor is a ceremonial complex in the Pacucha district of Apurimac, Peru, at over 3,200 metres elevation, spanning approximately 10 hectares divided into five sectors. Built by the Chanka culture (1100-1400 AD) and later occupied by the Incas, the site features stone pyramids, artificial terraces, trapezoidal niches, and a staircase of approximately 500 steps. The Muyu Muyu sector contains a prominent pyramid where ritual sacrifices were offered to the sun and Pachamama. The annual Sondor Raymi festival re-enacts the legendary battle between the Chankas and Incas.
