Huiñao

Huiñao is a mountain in the Andes of Peru, rising to 3,645 metres (11,959 ft) in the Cotahuasi District of La Unión Province, Arequipa Region [1]. What distinguishes this mountain from higher peaks surrounding it is its position within the Cotahuasi Canyon, one of the deepest canyons in the world [2]. The summit features an archaeological site dating to 1-500 AD, reflecting pre-Columbian activity in this region [3]. From its peak, visitors enjoy panoramic views of the canyon and adjacent mountains. Local communities venerate Huiñao as an apu, a sacred mountain spirit in Andean belief systems.
