Markansaya

Markansaya (also Hatun Markansaya) is a pre-Inca archaeological site in Peru's Apurimac Region, Cotabambas Province, Haquira District. Situated on a hilltop covering approximately 3 hectares, it features square and circular funerary towers (chullpas) of about 2.5 metres diameter, built from stone blocks. The settlement displays urban planning with plazas, ceremonial and residential sectors, and a possible political-economic sector. It is considered the most representative archaeological zone of the Haquira district and the principal center during the pre-Inca period in the area.
