Keno Daas Rock Carvings

Keno Daas is a rock carving site located just outside Gilgit toward the Hunza Valley in Gilgit-Baltistan, Pakistan. The carvings are part of a vast collection of petroglyphs and inscriptions along ancient Silk Road routes through the upper Indus region, studied since 1983 by the Heidelberg Academy of Humanities and Sciences under Professor Harald Hauptmann. The region's Buddhist rock art, which peaked between the 5th and 8th centuries AD, includes depictions of Buddha, stupas, and inscriptions in Brahmi, Sogdian, Middle Persian, Chinese, and Tibetan scripts.
