The Tarxien Temples are a megalithic complex in Malta consisting of four temple structures built between 3600 and 2500 BC, making them the largest prehistoric site on the islands. Discovered in 1913 by farmer Lorenzo Despott and excavated 1915-1919 by Sir Themistocles Zammit, the South Temple features remarkable bas-relief sculptures of spirals and animals. The lower half of a colossal "Fat Lady" statue in a pleated skirt stands within the complex. Inscribed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1992.
