Temple of Apollo, Melite

The Temple of Apollo was a Roman temple in the city of Melite (modern Mdina), Malta, built in the 2nd century AD and dedicated to Apollo as god of medicine, prophecy, and the arts. It featured a tetrastyle portico with four Ionic columns raised on a podium, and may have been erected on an earlier Punic sacred structure. An inscription recording a private benefactor's patronage was discovered in 1747. Parts of the temple's crepidoma were rediscovered during excavations along Villegaignon Street in 2002, while architectural fragments including capitals have been incorporated into medieval buildings throughout Mdina.
