Tal-Mintna Catacombs

The Tal-Mintna Catacombs are a hypogea complex in Mqabba, Malta, dating to at least the 4th century AD. The site comprises three aligned burial hypogea, each originally accessed via separate stepped shafts but later joined by narrow passages. The central hypogeum contains an exceptionally well-preserved triclinium used for commemorative meals, flanked by two rows of pyramidal lamp-holes. Window tombs throughout the complex are adorned with elaborately carved scallop-shells and decorated pilasters. First documented by A.A. Caruana in 1860, the site is managed by Heritage Malta and accessible by appointment only.
