Roman Amphitheatre of Cagliari

(2nd - 5th c. AD) The Roman Amphitheatre of Cagliari is an ancient Roman amphitheatre located in Cagliari, southern Sardinia, Italy[1]. Built in the 2nd century AD, the structure was half carved directly into the rock of the hill, while the remaining half was constructed using local white limestone, with a facade reaching over 20 metres (65.6 ft) in height[1]. The arena hosted gladiatorial combat and fights between men and animals, with fighters recruited from within and outside Sardinia[1]. It also served as the seat of public executions[1].
