Necropolis of Pranu Muttedu

The Necropolis of Pranu Muttedu near Goni in southern Sardinia is one of the most important pre-Nuragic funerary complexes on the island, spanning a 200,000 sq m park. Dating to the Late Neolithic Ozieri culture through the early Copper Age, it contains the highest concentration of menhirs in Sardinia -- about 60 proto-anthropomorphic standing stones arranged in pairs and groups. The complex includes megalithic tombs, a Domus de Janas necropolis at Genna Accas with stone circles, dolmens at Baccoi, and round buildings of probable sacral character. Excavations by Enrico Atzeni began in 1980.
