Fonte Sacra Su Tempiesu

A Nuragic sacred well temple near Orune in central Sardinia, dating to the Late Bronze Age (13th century BC) and used until the Early Iron Age. Standing 6.85m tall, it is the only known covered sacred well built above ground in Sardinia, constructed using precisely cut trachyte and basalt blocks joined with lead seals in opus isodomum technique. The temple comprises a vestibule with two monolithic arches, a four-step staircase, and a circular tholos chamber protecting the spring. Its double-sloped roof once supported twenty bronze votive swords. Discovered in 1953 and excavated by Maria Ausilia Fadda (1981-86, 1998).
