Taq-e Bostan

Taq-e Bostan ("Arch of the Garden") is a complex of large Sassanid rock reliefs located 5 km from central Kermanshah, Iran, at the foot of the Zagros Mountains. Dating from the 4th century AD onward, the carvings include the investiture of Shapur II (r. 309-379), depicting his victory over Roman emperor Julian the Apostate in 363 AD, with the defeated Julian beneath the king's feet. The complex features two rock-cut iwans with elaborate hunting scenes and representations of Khosrow II flanked by Ahura Mazda and Anahita. Natural springs still feed a large basin in front of the reliefs.
