Swarn Bhandar

Son Bhandar (Swarn Bhandar) Caves are two Jain man-made caves carved into the base of the Vaibhar Hills in Rajgir, Bihar. Generally dated to the 3rd-4th century AD based on a dedicatory inscription in Gupta script mentioning Jain sage Vairadeva, though some scholars suggest Maurya Empire origins as early as 319 BC. The main cave has a rectangular interior with trapezoidal entrance reminiscent of the earlier Barabar Caves. The name means 'store of gold,' reflecting a persistent legend of hidden treasure within the cave walls, though no treasure has been confirmed by the Archaeological Survey of India.
