Jivdhan Fort

Jivdhan is a hill fortress at 1,145 m elevation in the Sahyadri range near Junnar, Pune district, Maharashtra. Its origins trace to the Satavahana dynasty (2nd c. BCE - 2nd c. CE), when it guarded the nearby Naneghat pass, a vital trade route linking the Deccan plateau to Arabian Sea ports. The fort passed through Mughal, Maratha, and British hands, with Shivaji integrating it into the Maratha defensive network in the 17th century. It was captured and partially destroyed by Col. Prother of the East India Company in 1818. Two fortified gates, Kalyan Darwaza and Junnar Darwaza, provide entry.
