Isthmia - Sanctuary

Isthmia is an ancient sanctuary of Poseidon on the Isthmus of Corinth, Greece, famed for hosting the Isthmian Games founded in 584 BC, one of the four Panhellenic Crown Games. The original Doric Temple of Poseidon was built around 700 BC and replaced around 465 BC with a larger complex after burning in 480 BC. Two stadiums have been discovered at the site. In the 5th century AD, the temple's materials were reused to build the Hexamilion defensive wall across the Isthmus.
