Amelungsburg, Süntel

The Amelungsburg is a former Celtic ringfort (hillfort) on the Amelungsberg hill in the Süntel ridge, Lower Saxony, Germany, dating to 500 BC–1 AD [1]. The site covers approximately 15 hectares on a plateau 900 metres long and 300 metres wide, with steep cliffs on all sides providing natural defense [1]. The fortifications consist of a rampart extending about 1,000 metres along two sides of the terrain [1]. Archaeological evidence indicates Iron Age habitation, making it one of the largest hillforts in northern Germany [1].
