Smedmore Hill Settlement

The Smedmore Hill Settlement is an Iron Age and Romano-British archaeological site about 3.2 km southwest of Corfe Castle in Dorset, England. The scheduled monument comprises an aggregate village covering approximately 1.2 hectares with an associated field system spanning a total of 8.5 hectares on a north-facing ridge of the Isle of Purbeck. Traces of an outer bank with four entrance gaps survive as earthworks. Excavations during a 1956 water pipe trench produced Iron Age pottery, Romano-British samian ware, and worked Kimmeridge shale debris from bracelet production.
