Kimsbury Hill Fort

An Iron Age hillfort on Painswick Beacon in the Cotswolds, Gloucestershire, also known as Castle Godwyn or Kimsbury Camp. Dating to c. 400 BC with use extending into the Roman era (3rd century AD), excavations have yielded pottery, coins, and other artifacts. The name derives from Old English *Cynemares burh ("Cynemar's fortification"), first attested 1263-84. The interior was extensively quarried and partly converted to a golf course in 1891, though substantial ramparts survive. The fort was reoccupied during the 1643 English Civil War siege of Gloucester.
