Boskednan Stone Circle

Boskednan Stone Circle, traditionally known as the Nine Maidens, is a late Neolithic or early Bronze Age monument located 6.4 km northwest of Penzance in Cornwall, England. The circle originally comprised up to 22 granite uprights around a 69 m perimeter, of which 10 survive today -- six standing, one partially exposed, and three fallen. In 2009, archaeologists re-erected two of the fallen stones. Excavations by W. C. Borlase uncovered a cist and funerary urn nearby, dating to the early Bronze Age. The site likely served a ceremonial or ritual purpose for the megalithic communities of Penwith.
