Pendeen Vau

Pendeen Vau is a fogou (underground stone chamber) on the Cornish coast, situated at Pendeen Manor farm near Pendeen Lighthouse[1]. Dating to the Iron Age (roughly 500-1500 BC), fogous are rare subterranean structures unique to Cornwall[1]. The site lies on private land within the Penwith peninsula, an area rich in prehistoric monuments[1]. William Borlase the younger, one of the first scholars to study Cornish prehistory, was born at Pendeen in 1695[2].
