Lanyon Quoit

Lanyon Quoit is a Neolithic dolmen in Cornwall dating to 3500-2500 BC, predating the Egyptian pyramids. The capstone weighs over 13 tonnes and originally rested on four upright stones, tall enough for a horse and rider to pass beneath. A thunderstorm in 1815 dislodged the capstone and broke one of the supports. It was re-erected using public subscription with only three remaining uprights, reducing its height to 1.5 metres. The quoit lies at the north end of a long barrow 26 metres long, with nearby cist burials and a standing stone.
