Pyramid of Hetepheres I

The Pyramid of Hetepheres I (G1-a) at Giza was built for the wife of Pharaoh Sneferu and mother of Khufu, who held titles including "King's Mother" and "God's Daughter of his body". On February 2, 1925, photographer Mohamadien Ibrahim accidentally discovered her shaft tomb (G7000X) near the Great Pyramid when his tripod leg struck a concealed stairway. The sealed alabaster sarcophagus was found empty, though the burial chamber contained remarkable gilded wooden furniture, twenty silver bracelets inlaid with turquoise and lapis lazuli, and golden vessels.
