Koongine Cave

Koongine Cave is an archaeological site in the Limestone Coast of South Australia, situated in a low limestone ridge about 4 km from the coastline. The cave was occupied for approximately 2,000 years during the Pleistocene-Holocene transition, leaving up to 2 m of sediment rich in artefacts. Its stratified deposits define the Gambieran Industry, characterized by large convex scrapers. Indigenous Australian finger markings and more recent petroglyphs adorn the cave walls, stratified by travertine deposits.
