Bidjigal Reserve

A 186-hectare reserve in western Sydney, New South Wales, commemorating the Bidjigal Aboriginal people. The reserve contains rock shelters including one with a midden dated to 10,150 years BP -- the earliest known human habitation site in the Sydney basin. A prominent rock shelter known locally as the "Aboriginal Cave" was used by the Bidjigal people during early European contact. The reserve was formally dedicated in 2004 for the preservation of Aboriginal cultural heritage, flora, fauna, and public recreation.
