Green Gully Archaeological Site

An Aboriginal archaeological site in Keilor, Victoria, discovered during soil quarrying in the 1960s in the alluvial terraces of the Maribyrnong Valley. In 1968, an Aboriginal burial was unearthed and dated to approximately 6,460 years before present, along with associated artifacts. The site is part of the broader Keilor archaeological complex, where a cranium found in 1940 was dated to nearly 15,000 years old and subsequent investigations revealed hearths approximately 31,000 years BP. The land was acquired by the Victorian State Government in 1976 under the Relics Act 1972, one of the first major efforts to conserve Aboriginal archaeology in Victoria.
