Lake Mungo

Lake Mungo is a dry lake in New South Wales, Australia, approximately 760 km west of Sydney and 90 km northeast of Mildura[1]. It is the central feature of Mungo National Park and one of seventeen lakes in the World Heritage-listed Willandra Lakes Region[1]. The site is famous for the discovery of Mungo Man, the oldest human remains found in Australia, and Mungo Woman[1]. It also marks the location of the Lake Mungo geomagnetic excursion, the first convincing evidence that geomagnetic excursions are a geomagnetic phenomenon rather than sedimentological[1].
