The Lost City of Heracleion

Heracleion (Thonis) was an ancient Egyptian port city at the Canopic Mouth of the Nile, 32 km northeast of Alexandria [1]. Its remains lie in Abu Qir Bay, now 7 km offshore and 5.8 m underwater [1]. The city housed the sanctuary of Neith of Sais; a stele confirms it bore both Egyptian and Greek names [1].
