Gärde is a prehistoric archaeological site in Jämtland, Sweden, featuring rock carvings (petroglyphs) created approximately 7,000 years ago during the Mesolithic period [1]. The carvings are located on large boulders along the Gärdesån river in the village of Gärde, depicting primarily moose (elk) representations [1]. These petroglyphs are among the oldest known rock art in Sweden and provide rare visual evidence of Stone Age hunting societies in northern Scandinavia [1]. The site is situated in Krokom Municipality, approximately 70 kilometers northwest of Östersund, in a traditional agricultural area with a name dating back to 1553 [2].
