Gene Fornby is a reconstructed Iron Age settlement located just outside Örnsköldsvik in Västernorrland County, Sweden [1]. The settlement dates to the Roman Iron Age, approximately 400-600 AD [1]. Archaeological evidence shows the settlement was originally positioned directly along the waterline, but post-glacial rebound has caused the coastline to recede approximately 500 metres (1,640 ft) from the site today [1]. The earliest traces of human activity in the area date back to the Nordic Bronze Age, indicating long-term habitation of this coastal location [1]. The site now operates as an open-air museum, allowing visitors to experience reconstructed Iron Age buildings and learn about prehistoric life in northern Sweden [1].
