Ajvide Settlement

A large Pitted Ware culture settlement and cemetery covering 200,000 square metres on the west coast of Gotland, Sweden. Occupied from the Late Mesolithic through the mid-Bronze Age, peak activity occurred during the Middle Neolithic (3100-2700 BC). Over 70 burials have been excavated, with recent DNA analysis revealing extended kinship networks among the interred. The community subsisted primarily on marine resources including seals and fish from the Baltic Sea.
