Temple of Artemis - Sardes

The fourth largest Ionic temple in the ancient world, located in the ruins of Sardis, capital of ancient Lydia in western Turkey [1] [2]. Construction began in the Hellenistic period around 300 BC and was significantly reworked under Emperor Hadrian in the mid-2nd century AD, when the cella was divided into chambers for both Artemis and the Imperial cult [1] [3]. The pseudodipteros temple measures approximately 44.6 by 97.6 metres with eight columns on each end [1]. Only two of the original columns remained standing [1] [4].
