Castro de A Cidá

Castro de A Cida is an Iron Age hillfort in Ribeira, A Coruna province, Galicia, established over 2,500 years ago by communities of the castrexa (Castro) culture. One of the oldest excavated castros in Galicia, it was inhabited from the 6th century BC to the 1st century AD. The complex spans approximately 20,000 square metres and features both circular and quadrangular dwellings, along with defensive rock enclosures. Strategically positioned on elevated terrain for defense and commanding views, the settlement remains only partially excavated, with substantial portions still hidden beneath vegetation and stones. The nearby Dolmen de Axeitos, a megalithic burial monument 8 km away, provides additional context for the region's deep prehistoric heritage.
