Castro de Achadizo

Castro de Achadizo is an Iron Age coastal castro in the parish of Castro, municipality of Boiro, A Coruna province, Galicia. Occupied primarily between the 6th and 2nd centuries BC, it is a typical example of a fortified coastal settlement of the Castro culture of northwestern Iberia. Excavations conducted from 1991 to 1994 unearthed residential structures, stone wall remains, and shell midden deposits indicating reliance on marine resources. Notable finds include a rock crystal pointed tool from a Second Iron Age shell midden, as well as faunal and botanical assemblages revealing diverse subsistence strategies. The site is now largely disfigured by modern construction over much of the archaeological area, though surviving remains have been consolidated and integrated into a public recreation area.
