A Roman amphitheatre completed in 8 BC in the colony of Emerita Augusta, capital of the province of Lusitania in modern Merida, Spain. The structure held approximately 15,000 spectators and was used for gladiatorial combats and beast hunts. Its design features three sections of seating: the ima, media, and summa cavea surrounding a central arena. Now part of the Archaeological Ensemble of Merida, declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1993, it stands as one of the most extensive Roman archaeological complexes on the Iberian Peninsula.
