Nether Largie North Cairn, Kilmartin Glen

A large round cairn in Kilmartin Glen dating to the late Neolithic and Bronze Age (c. 3000-1500 BC), forming part of a remarkable 2 km linear cemetery of five burial cairns. Originally 21 m wide and 3 m tall, it was excavated by J.H. Craw in 1930, who found a central cist containing only a single human molar. The capstone bears approximately 40 cup and ring marks overlaid with two pecked axe-head carvings, likely reflecting the high status of the person buried within. The cairn was reconstructed in the 1970s and can be viewed through a concrete inspection chamber.
