Tarnowskie Gory in Silesia, Poland has archaeological traces dating to the Upper Paleolithic (over 20,000 BC), with Bronze Age settlements along the river Stola. The site is best known for its lead-silver-zinc mine, inscribed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 2017 for its monumental underground water management system spanning 300 years of hydraulic engineering. Mining began in the 12th century, and the complex includes an underground labyrinth of excavations, chambers, and tunnels.
