Giecz

Giecz is a historic settlement in Greater Poland Voivodeship, Poland, that served as one of the main centers of early Polish statehood alongside Poznan and Gniezno [1]. In the early 9th century, a small keep was constructed on a mound on a peninsula extending into Giecz lake, fortified with a stockade and earthworks [1]. From around 940 AD, it became one of the key strongholds of the Piast dynasty [1].
