Tunel Wielki

Tunel Wielki ("Big Tunnel") is a cave in Ojcow National Park, Poland, located in the Krakow-Czestochowa Upland about 20 km north of Krakow. Flint tools discovered during 1967-68 excavations were initially dated to 40,000 years ago, but recent analysis by Dr. Malgorzata Kot revealed they are approximately 450,000-550,000 years old, crafted by Homo heidelbergensis, making them among Poland's oldest artifacts. The cave's 4.5-metre-deep sediments contain 15 layers spanning from the Lower Palaeolithic through Lengyel, Funnelbeaker, Corded Ware, and Lusatian cultures to the Middle Ages. Only two other Polish sites have yielded equally ancient flint tools.
