Salapia

Salapia was an ancient Daunian settlement in southeastern Italy, likely established around 900 BC near modern Cerignola and Manfredonia. The town was named after the salt marshes of ancient Lake Salpi, now the Saline di Margherita di Savoia. [1] Classical sources including Pliny the Elder, Ptolemy, and possibly Strabo (as "Elpia") reference the settlement. [1] Salapia functioned as a bishopric from at least 314 AD before the see was later transferred to Trani. [2]
