Navalia

Navalia was an ancient settlement mentioned by the Greek geographer Claudius Ptolemy in his 2nd-century AD Geographia. The name derives from the Latin word for "dock" or "wharf", though this meaning may be coincidental. Recent scholarship has tentatively identified the settlement with the area near modern-day Essen, Germany. Ptolemy provided coordinates, but the exact prime meridian he used remains unknown, and the coordinates have been corrupted by errors in medieval manuscript copies, making precise localization difficult.
