Bannaventa

A Romano-British fortified town on Watling Street (modern A5) straddling the boundaries of Norton and Whilton, Northamptonshire, England. Serving as a staging post for Romano-Celtic travellers, the settlement covered 4-4.5 hectares in an irregular quadrilateral layout. Its defences evolved from an initial rampart and single ditch in the 2nd-3rd century AD to a double ditch with stone wall by the late 3rd-4th century. Today nothing Roman remains above ground; the site is privately farmed but protected as a Scheduled Ancient Monument.
