Lactodurum

Lactodurum was a Roman town on Watling Street in the province of Britannia, now the town of Towcester in Northamptonshire, England. First settled in the mid-1st century AD, it grew from timber houses with clay walls into a prosperous settlement with stone-founded buildings, Bath-stone colonnades, and tessellated pavements by the 3rd century. Its defenses, dating to c. 180 AD, enclosed approximately 11.25 hectares on the southern bank of the River Tove with external ditches and an internal rampart. A stamped tile from nearby references the Twentieth Legion, and the site served as a junction linking roads to Alchester, Bannaventa, and other Roman towns.
