EnglandA Roman road in southern England stretching approximately 117 km east-west from Verulamium (St Albans) to Corinium Dobunnorum (Cirencester), linking Watling Street with the Fosse Way. Probably laid out in the 50s AD along an older pre-Roman trackway, it passes through Berkhamsted, Tring, Aylesbury, and Alchester. Its name derives from Anglo-Saxon meaning 'oak-man'. Sections survive today as the A41 road and public footpaths including part of the Oxfordshire Way.
