Rainsborough Camp

Rainsborough Camp is a bivallate Iron Age hillfort in West Northamptonshire, England, covering 2.5 hectares. The ramparts were built in the 5th century BC, with the inner ring of earthworks surviving in very good condition. In the 4th century BC the hillfort was attacked and its defences destroyed, remaining deserted for some 200 years before non-defensive Roman occupation in the 1st and 4th centuries AD. Excavated in 1961-1965, postholes found at the site may have supported a triumphal arch or totem pole.
