Lindholm Høje

Lindholm Hoje is a major Viking Age burial site and former settlement overlooking Aalborg in northern Denmark. The site contains around 700 cremation graves from the Iron Age and Viking Age, with burials spanning over 600 years up to around 1000 AD. Graves are marked by stone settings in triangular and ship shapes. Sand drift buried the site around 1000 AD, preserving it remarkably until systematic excavation began in 1952. Archaeologists uncovered two settlements dating to the 8th-9th and 11th-12th centuries.
