The Roman Thermae in Varna are the largest and best-preserved Roman bathing complex in the Balkans, representing the architectural sophistication of Odessus, the ancient Roman name for this Black Sea port city [1]. Constructed in the late 2nd century AD, these thermae rank as the fourth-largest surviving Roman baths in all of Europe [1]. The complex exemplifies typical Roman bath architecture with its hot (caldarium), warm (tepidarium), and cold (frigidarium) bathing chambers, hypocaust heating systems, and elaborate marble decorations [1]. As one of the most significant Roman monuments in Bulgaria, the thermae provide valuable insights into urban life in the Roman province of Moesia Inferior [1].
